Key messagesBelow-average rainfall continues over Haiti during June.Above-average NDVI conditions are prevailing across the country.Below-average rainfall is expected during July.BELOW-AVERAGE RAINFALL ACROSS HAITIBelow-average rainfall was observed across Haiti during June, continuing the dry conditions experienced since late May. Despite this, the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) shown in Figure 1 indicates average to above-average prevailing vegetation conditions. However, in localized areas of Artibonite vegetation conditions are below average. Other areas in the northern and southern parts of the country are also beginning to exhibit below-average conditions, likely due to the combined effects of below-average rainfall and aboveaverage temperatures.The forecast in Figure 2 indicates below-average rainfall in July. These conditions could impact the final yields of the Printemps season and delay the sowing of the Second rainy season. Additionally, above-average temperatures may favor the development of pests and diseases. High evapotranspiration rates are also likely to reduce the water available for irrigation systems, hindering normal crop development during the Second rainy season.
