A missing person case in Kalaburagi turned out to be a murder with the arrest of three accused by the police.While the police initially registered a missing person complaint after Raghvendra Nayak could not be found for more than two months, subsequent investigation helped the police in solving the case.The police have arrested Gururaj Nelogi, Ashwini Mallabad and Lakshmikant Malipatil for kidnapping and murdering the 39-year-old resident of Ganesh Nagar.Raghavendra Nayak had left home on March 12 in search of work and his wife Surekha lodged a missing person complaint on May 25, when Raghvendra Nayak failed to return home after over two months.As the police team lead by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Kanika Sikriwal and Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic and Crime) intensified investigation of the missing person case, it was revealed that the deceased Raghvendra Nayak had had illicit relationship with a woman, Ashwini R. Mallabad, who is separated from her husband.On questioning Ashwini Mallabad, it was revealed that after she ended her relationship with Raghvendra Nayak and started living with another person (Gururaj Nelogi) in Krishna Nagar, Raghvendra Nayak started harassing her and was forcing her to return to him.Subsequently, she, along with Gururaj Nelogi and Lakshmikant Malipatil, hatched a conspiracy to kill Raghvendra Nayak.On March 12 evening, the very day Raghvendra Nayak left home in search of work, he was abducted by the three accused from the Supermarket locality and taken to a graveyard in Krishna Nagar where he was beaten to death with sticks. Later, the three carried the body in a car and flung it into the Krishna river at Shaktinagar in Raichur district.The police are investigating the case further to establish if there were more persons involved in the murder.Published - July 07, 2025 07:59 pm IST
