Sales are accurate at the time of publication, but prices and inventory are always subject to change.I've been reviewing a ton of e-ink notebooks for Lifehacker lately, and I've concluded that they aren't for everyone. But for the right user—someone who wants a writeable screen that recreates the feel of a pen and paper notebook, on a device that can run basically any productivity or reading app on the Google Play store—they are a godsend. The only downside is the price: With niche appeal comes a premium price. But right now, you can grab the Boox Note Air 4C, my overall pick for the best digital notebook for most people, on a rare sale during Prime Day. I've never seen any Boox devices go on sale at Amazon at all, even during previous Prime Day sales, so while the $20 savings on this $530 device isn't huge, it's definitely unprecedented. (My favorite e-reader, the Boox Palma 2, is also marked down during Amazon's big sale). Boox Note Air 4C E-Ink Notebook $529.99 at Amazon Get Deal Get Deal $529.99 at Amazon A stylish replacement for both your paper notebook and your KindleThe Boox Note Air 4C looks like an e-reader, but it's more akin to an Android tablet with an e-ink screen—its open Android operating system includes Google Play store access, so you can download any app you want, from productivity and office tools to reading apps for books, comics, and manga (it's not marketed as a dedicated e-reader but it makes for a great one, especially if you read a lot of color content). The 10.3-inch display offers the same clarity as your average Kindle, with a resolution of 2480 x 1860 and 300 dpi in black and white, and 1240 x 930 and 150 dpi in color mode. It has a temperature-adjustable front light that makes reading easy on your eyes under any conditions. The "octo-core" processor is a 2.07Ghz Qualcomm Snapdragon 750G, which is on the slower side for a modern tablet but fast enough for most of the tasks you'll likely be using the device to accomplish. At 5.8mm, it is stylishly thin, and the build quality feels smooth and solid. It has Bluetooth support, dual speakers, and a microphone for recording voice notes, as well as an SD card slot that can expand the 64GB of onboard storage by up to 2TB.The real strength of the Note Air 4C, particularly in comparison to a device like the Kindle Scribe, is its versatility as a digital notebook. Writing on the screen with the included stylus still kind of feels like a magic trick to me, providing a pleasingly paper-like writing experience, with the slightly textured, matte screen offering enough resistance that you won't feel like you're just sliding your pen's nib across a slick surface. Though it comes pre-loaded with some fairly capable note-taking software, access to a full app store means you can also choose to use your program of choice. A premium product at a premium priceAll e-notebooks tend to be pretty pricey—closer in price to a high-end iPad than a Kindle—but they are versatile enough that, for the right user, they can be an entertainment and productivity powerhouse. If you're in the market for one of them, I highly recommend the Note Air 4C, especially if you can pick on up at a discount. Looking for something else?
