A 43-year-old man lost his life on Saturday evening after the vehicle he was driving collided with the rear of a stationary lorry on the Good Hope Public Road, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara.The fatal accident occurred at approximately 18:50 hrs and is currently under investigation by the police.According to initial reports, a motor lorry (registration #GAF 4657), driven by a 29-year-old truck driver from Tabatinga, Central Rupununi, Region 9, was parked on the Good Hope Railway Embankment Road, facing west along the southern side. The driver told police he had stopped the lorry and switched on the hazard lights after hearing an unusual sound coming from the vehicle.He reportedly sent his porter to check the source of the noise when he suddenly felt a loud impact at the rear of the lorry. On exiting the vehicle, he discovered that motor car #PNN 6925, driven by Kevindra Tularam, had crashed into the back of the truck.Tularam, a 43-year-old resident of Lot 20 David Rose Scheme, Unity, East Coast Demerara, sustained severe injuries as a result of the collision. Public-spirited citizens quickly removed him from the wreckage and placed him in a police vehicle, which transported him to the Enmore Regional Hospital.Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty. His body is currently at the hospital mortuary, awaiting a post-mortem examination.Police say the lorry driver was subjected to a breathalyser test, which showed no trace of alcohol in his system.
