The Maltese government will be donating 15,000 from its fund for social causes to animal welfare activist Fabio Spiteri in order to help him continue his work with animals in need.Fabio Spiteri is is a triathlon athlete and coach and an overall inspirational figure in the ultra-endurance sports world as seen through his achievements in long-distance triathlons and cycles around Sicily. He kicked off his latest sporting feat “Project 100” in which he aims to raise €100,000 for all animal shelters in Malta, as he took on the World Cup IUTA Ultra competition. This is not Spiteri’s first experience in fundraising for animals. In fact, in 2024, he attempted to complete the Deca x10 Triathlon in Brazil. During his preparation, he raised €52,000 for cat feeders and animal shelters. Unfortunately, this endeavour was cut short after Spiteri suffered painful blisters and a torn muscle.“Fabio Spiteri continues to make a difference for so many animals in need,” wrote Prime Minister Robert Abela on his social media. “It’s an honour for us to support his cause with a €15,000 donation for Project 100, so he can continue giving shelter, hope, and love to those who need it most.”In this event, Spiteri placed second overall and first in the Over 50s category. His performance earned him a spot in Maltese history, making him the first ever to land a spot on the podium.Through the money being raised, Spiteri is helping countless volunteers and animals who desperately need support.Spiteri appeals to the public to donate through one of the methods below:Revolut to 99816248Paypal to rarmalta@gmail.comBank transfer to BOV IBAN: MT40VALL22013000000050010082877SMS donation (€2.33) to 50617312SMS donation (€4.66) to 50618075SMS donation (€6.99) to 50618923SMS donation (€11.65) to 50619260Well done Fabio!•
