Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs, Anil Nandlall, SC, has sounded a warning to Guyanese to remain vigilant as the country prepares for elections on September 1, pointing out that the high-profile cases related to the alleged rigging of the 2020 General and Regional Elections will not be concluded before the polls.Speaking during his live programme on Tuesday night, Nandlall revealed that despite some progress in the courts, the trials stemming from the attempted electoral fraud remain far from over. He stressed that several key witnesses have already testified.“The trials have started, many witnesses have testified, but it is clear that the cases will not conclude before September 1,” Nandlall said, adding that the remaining hearing dates span July, September, October, and November. He outlined that proceedings are set for the 28th, 29th, and 30th of July, with further dates confirmed in the following months. The Attorney General reminded citizens that those accused of attempting to subvert the will of the electorate in 2020 are still free, stressing that this poses a threat to the integrity of future elections.“From every conceivable perspective, we will be completing another election cycle while those accused of attempting fraudulent conduct at the last election are yet to face full justice. It is not because the prosecution was unprepared — they discharged their obligations with reasonable competence,” Nandlall said.He urged Guyanese to stay alert, share credible information, and work together to safeguard the country’s democracy. “Please share this message with all your friends and families,” he appealed, warning that the threat of electoral mischief remains real as “electoral miscreants roam free”.The post Election fraud cases will not conclude before September 1 polls, Nandlall warns public to stay vigilant appeared first on News Room Guyana.
