As we approach the age of quantum computing, Samsung is doubling down on its efforts to protect devices from malicious attacks. Today, Samsung announced a new set of security and privacy features that will debut with its upcoming One UI 8 Galaxy devices at Unpacked 2025.The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 will be the first phones to boast three new security updates thanks to the One UI 8 firmware. These new features enhance on-device protection for AI applications and improve network security against quantum attacks. They also empower users to take action against potential threats.Knox Enhanced Encrypted Protection (KEEP)KEEP is a new architecture Samsung created to secure the user's personal insights in the age of AI. It's a security expansion of the Personal Data Engine Samsung released with the Galaxy S25 series earlier this year. Many AI features work best if they have access to user insights, but it is crucial for this data to be kept secure on the device. Samsung's new KEEP architecture creates encrypted, app-specific storage environments within Samsung Knox and scales across Galaxy AI.KEEP protects the Personal Data Engine as well as Now Brief, Smart Suggestions, and other on-device AI features that rely on personal data to deliver the best experiences.Samsung Knox Matrix improvementsThe second security enhancement in One UI 8 pertains to Knox Matrix, i.e., Samsung's private blockchain technology that secures smart device ecosystems and smart homes. Thanks to the latest One UI 8 improvements, Samsung Knox Matrix offers greater transparency and more control. The system will automatically sign out any devices flagged for serious risk.Knox Matrix will notify users through their connected Galaxy devices and offer guidance and possible actions through the “Security status of your devices” page.Quantum-resistant encryption for Secure Wi-FiThe third new security feature enabled by One UI 8 consists of post-quantum cryptography for the existing Secure Wi-Fi system.Galaxy devices already have access to Secure Wi-Fi, but One UI 8 will soon upgrade the feature with a new cryptographic framework designed to improve security in the upcoming era of quantum computing.Presently, Secure Wi-Fi allows Galaxy device users to enhance the security of their network connection for free for 1024MB of data per month. After that, Galaxy device users can pay a subscription fee to continue using Secure Wi-Fi.While the existing system doesn't offer post-quantum cryptography protection, One UI 8 will address this shortcoming. The One UI 8 update will debut with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 series later this week at Unpacked. The event will be streamed live.More devices will benefit from these security features once the One UI 8 update rolls out more widely, but Samsung says availability may differ by device model and region.
