By Mulengera ReportersPresident Museveni’s Minister Godfrey Kabyanga has pleaded with veteran politician Crispus Kiyonga, the former defense Minister currently serving as the Chancelor for Makerere University, to appreciate the fact that he was MP since 1980 to 2016 when FDC strong man Atkins Katushabe (also husband to ex-Museveni Minister Sarah Opendi) came and took him down. That that was more than enough for one to serve as MP.Kabyabya, who wants to reclaim Kasese’s Bukonzo West from Atkins Katushabe on the NRM ticket, says Kiyonga must accept that his time to politically shine ended long time ago and must now allow younger cadres like himself to carry the day as he watches from Kiroussa.Kabyanya, who is the Minister for National Guidance, says that Kiyonga is now too old and doesn’t have political vibe anymore to deliver a win for the NRM in Bukonzo West. NRM party primaries are due for 16th July and Kabyanga is determined to finish off Kiyonga politically that day once and for all.Kabyanga considers himself vibrant and the only one with sufficient vibe to politically castrate Atkins Katushabe and reclaim the Bukonzo West Seat back to NRM which has been away for the last 10 years since 2016 when Atkins Katushabe, who had just returned from the US, rode on the Kizza Besigye wave and ousted Kiyonga. Kabyanga says that the young people are now the majority yet Kiyonga is too elderly to appeal to such voters anymore.Kabyanga says Kiyonga must know that his political season ended long time ago and he must now eat a humble pie and allow to be led by someone else from within inside the NRM.Kiyonga says no amount of ranting will get Kabyanga the seat on a silver plate and wants him to sweat for the seat. Kiyonga, who is less belligerent than Kabyanga, says if he is defeated in party primaries, he will rally behind Kabyanga.James Mbahimba, the NRM Chairman in Kasese, says leaders should use complementary language towards each other even when they are competing because the confrontational approach will only breed division, which can weaken NRM in favor of its opponents. On his part, Atkins Katushabe says he will be more than prepared to devor whoever NRM fronts but its clear Kiyonga would give him harder time than Kabyanga can ever.Despite being born there, Kabyanga is generally an alien to the voters of Bukonzo West compared to Dr. Crispus Kiyonga who doesn’t have to lose his Makerere top job merely because he has exhibited interest in once again becoming Bujonzo West legislator.
