Trump administration says Harvard may lose accreditation, threatens to subpoena international student records

The Trump administration’s fight against Harvard University is still ongoing — this time, Trump alleges that the prestigious university, ranked number one on most global university rankings, somehow no longer meets accreditation standards. This is all part of Trump’s plan: to bend core institutions to serve his ultimate goal of settling his culture wars; to distract his base from him stripping away their Medicaid protections; and to shield elite figures who are likely involved in the Jeffrey Epstein racket — an issue that has become central for many MAGA faithful. Trump has long claimed that Harvard engages in “reverse racism” and a form of discrimination in its admissions process. The obsession with Harvard’s admissions has even led to rumors that Trump may have been personally affected by this alleged discrimination, speculated as the reason Barron Trump is not attending the prestigious institution currently. Whether true or not, Trump cut research funding to the tune of billions and is now threatening to subpoena the institution for records on its international students. Reuters reports that Trump is hopeful for a resolution with the university soon. Harvard, however, has sued the Trump administration over frozen grants and blocked admissions for international students, calling the move a blatant violation of the First Amendment. Trump, on the other hand, claims the university is spreading leftist “woke” ideologies and antisemitism due to the protests against the war in Gaza. Trump believes they’re close to a deal. But according to reports, talks between the administration and the university had stalled and completely disintegrated, so Trump is back to what he knows best: issuing threats that have no real basis in actual law. Meanwhile, China is offering to take in the international students being affected by Trump’s affront to education. It is perhaps worth mentioning that at the forefront of the AI revolution is Jensen Huang, CEO of NVIDIA, who relocated from Taiwan at a young age and studied at Stanford — these are the kinds of minds now being ejected, allegedly because Trump doesn’t believe the admissions process is favorable enough for his family. The U.S. Department of Education has formally moved to inform Harvard’s accreditor that due to its alleged violation of anti-discrimination by failing to protect Jewish and Israeli students on campus, the agency now has “strong evidence to suggest the school may no longer meet the commission’s accreditation standards.” Education Secretary Linda McMahon added that she now expects the New England Commission of Higher Education to keep the federal agency updated on Harvard’s efforts to correct its practices and ensure compliance with accreditor standards. The only issue here is that the nonprofit is scheduled to next evaluate Harvard in 2027. Furthermore, the federal government cannot legally direct the commission to revoke Harvard’s accreditation before that time. This seems to be yet another classic Trump tactic to give his MAGA base something else to focus on instead of the issues he would rather not answer questions about. Harvard believes it is simply being targeted for championing leftist causes. And it’s hard to argue that isn’t true.
