The Memorial Tournament takes place this week and it is the seventh of the eight Signature Events on the PGA Tour. This tournament was created by Jack Nicklaus and first staged in 1976. Held at Muirfield Village, which is named after the Scottish course where Nicklaus won his first Open Championship, the course has also staged a Ryder Cup (1987), Solheim Cup (1998) and Presidents Cup (2013).It is this tournament, however, that has become one of the finest, and most difficult, stops on the PGA Tour. Indeed, in 2025, Muirfield Village ranked as the fourth-hardest course on tour.talkSPORT BET – Bet £10 and get £30 in free bets – CLAIM HERE* The previous eight winners dating back to 2017 have either won a major championship or a Tour Championship during their careers, suggesting that usually one of the elite players ends up triumphing in Ohio. With Scottie Scheffler on the hunt for a third successive title here, that run might well continue. There are a few players to keep an eye out for.Memorial Tournament TipsRory McIlroy to win and each-way @ 11/1Ben Griffin to win and each-way @ 33/1Top rest of the world – Nick Taylor @ 10/1McIlroy eyeing first Memorial victorySurprisingly, Rory McIlroy has never won this event, but that could change this week. With another Masters title tucked away, the Northern Irishman is looking for his second win of the season and there is every chance of that happening at Muirfield Village. The six-time major winner has a solid, if unspectacular record here. Across 13 events since turning professional, McIlroy has made 11 of 13 cuts, finishing in the top-five twice and finishing outside the top-40 only once.He skipped the event last year, while finishing 15th in 2024. That should have been far better though, as McIlroy struggled to weekend rounds of 73 and 76.McIlroy finished seventh at the PGA Championship last month, five shots behind winner Aaron Rai and this is his first start since.Fresh and ready to go, the 37-year-old could begin his US Open preparations with a victory in Ohio.Griffin can go one better than last yearBen Griffin finished second last year, four shots adrift of Scheffler, but it was an excellent week for the American. If it weren’t for a final round of 73, there is no doubt he would have offered a sterner challenge, but that result stands him in good stead ahead of this week. His iron play from between 150-200 yards hasn’t been great this season, yet Griffin has excelled around the green. He ranks ninth on tour for Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green this season and 12th for scrambling between 10-20 yards.Griffin also ranks 16th in Strokes Gained: Putting in 2026, which is another indicator that he could go one better than last year by winning his fourth tour title this week.Three top-tens across his last five starts, including third-place finishes at the Charles Schwab Challenge and the Cadillac Championship prove that he is in fine form heading into the Memorial.Taylor set to shine this weekOne player to keep an eye on this week is Nick Taylor. The Canadian finished fourth here in 2025 and he would have finished closer to Scheffler had he not shot a final round 74 on Sunday. While the likes of Adam Scott, Hideki Matsuyama and Si Woo Kim are ahead of him in the top rest of the world market, Taylor offers superb value. He ranks 19th on tour for approaches between 175-200 yards, a vital trait for success here along with ranking tenth for Strokes Gained: Around-the-Green.Taylor also loves to get off to a fast start. At the previous two Signature Events, he opened up with rounds of 66 at the Truist Championship and the Cadillac Championship.Following the conclusion of the Charles Schwab Challenge, Taylor ranks fifth in first-round scoring average on tour.Should he get off to a quick start this week, there is no reason why he cannot finish top of the rest of the world market.talkSPORT BET – Bet £10 and get £30 in free bets – CLAIM HERE**18+ New customers only.
