GNFS completes search and rescue operation at collapsed building in Adenta Newsite

The Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) says it has successfully concluded a search and rescue operation following the collapse of a two-storey apartment building near Da Yesu Ase Supermarket at Adenta Newsite during Thursday evening’s heavy rainfall.The Service said it received a distress call at 6:36 p.m., prompting the swift deployment of rescue teams from its National Headquarters, with support from personnel from the Legon and Abelemkpe Fire Stations. Upon arrival, the teams immediately commenced efforts to rescue occupants trapped beneath the rubble.Five occupants, made up of three adults and two children, were trapped when the building collapsed.The victims were identified as Margaret Kpeli, believed to be in her late 30s; Fred Atagba, also believed to be in his late 30s; Solomon; Seyeram Dzigda; and David Dzigda.Through a coordinated rescue effort, four of the victims — Fred Atagba, Solomon, Seyeram Dzigda and David Dzigda — were pulled from the debris alive with injuries and rushed to the 37 Military Hospital for medical treatment.A dog trapped in the collapsed structure was also successfully rescued alive during the operation.The GNFS stated that after several hours of intensive rescue work, the remaining victim, Margaret Kpeli, was retrieved from beneath the rubble in an unconscious state.She was subsequently handed over to the Adenta District Police for preservation and further investigation.The search and rescue operation was officially brought to a close at 10:54 p.m. on Thursday.The Ghana National Fire Service commended members of the community who assisted in the initial rescue efforts and expressed appreciation to personnel from the National Headquarters, Legon Fire Station, Abelemkpe Fire Station, the Ghana Police Service, medical responders and other supporting agencies whose collaboration contributed to the successful operation.
