Drive launched to tackle sickle cell anaemia - The HinduPublished - June 04, 2026 11:31 pm IST - VIJAYAWADANational Commission for Scheduled Tribes Chairman Antar Singh Arya addressing the media in Vijayawada on Thursday.. | Photo Credit: K V S GiriNational Commission for Scheduled Tribes (NCST) Chairman Antar Singh Arya on Thursday said that as part of a nationwide campaign to eliminate the sickle cell anaemia, awareness programmes are being conducted across the countrySpeaking to the media, Mr. Arya said that the Commission is organising ‘Yuva Samvad’ programmes in colleges to promote health awareness and social responsibility among the youth. He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given special importance to tackling the prevalence of sickle cell anaemia in tribal regions.He added that during the visit to Andhra Pradesh, the Commission had conducted extensive reviews of tribal welfare programmes, constitutional safeguards, and issues concerning tribal communities and employees. The primary aim of the tour, he said, was to ensure the protection of tribal rights and effective implementation of development schemes.Mr. Arya explained that before holding State-level reviews, the Commission spends two to three days visiting tribal areas, interacting with residents, tribal organisations and public representatives to gather feedback, grievances and suggestions.The delegation included Commission members Jatothu Hussain and Nirupam Chakma, Secretary Prashant Kumar Singh and Director P.
