The project will become Universal’s first theme park resort in Europe and follows years of speculation about the company’s plans for the region.On Wednesday, the British government announced that Comcast NBCUniversal has committed more than £5 billion toward construction of the resort during the expected five-year build period. A further £1 billion will be invested during the resort’s first decade of operation.The government is also backing the development with a £1.3 billion infrastructure package designed to improve transportation links around the site. Planned upgrades include improvements to the A421 road network and nearby rail connections, helping support both local residents and future visitors.The scale of the investment highlights just how significant the project has become for both Universal and the U.K. government. Current projections suggest the development will create 28,000 jobs across construction and operations, with nearly £50 billion in economic benefit generated by 2055.Construction is expected to begin soon, with enabling works already underway. Universal says more than 100 employees are already working on the project in the U.K., while the company has reportedly received expressions of interest from more than 33,000 potential applicants.
