Myung-Bo Hong's side started brightly and only a sensational stop from El Salvador captain Mario Gonzalez stopped Hwang In-Beom's shot from picking out the top corner. The hosts continued to push for the opening goal as Hwang Hee-Chan's free-kick sailed comfortably over the crossbar, but it was another set-piece that put South Korea ahead. Lee had tested Gonzalez early in the second half, but he got the better of the El Salvador goalkeeper with a curling 57th-minute free-kick that nestled into the top-left corner.Son Heung-min and Lee Kang-In were then introduced just after the hour, and the pair almost combined for South Korea seven minutes from time, but the Paris Saint-Germain forward fired over as his team held on for the win. Lee finished with team-high totals for shots (three) and chances created (three), while only Seol Young-Woo (three) had more touches in the opposition box than his two. His three crosses were also only bettered by Hwang (four). And while South Korea finished their World Cup preparations on a high, they will know there is still a lot to improve on in the final third. They finished with an expected goals (xG) total of 1.15 from their 15 shots, seven of which were on target compared to El Salvador's 0.14 from their three attempts.
