Marvel’s Next Wolverine Actor Has Been Fully Revealed in New Teaser

Wait 5 sec.

Hugh Jackman has become synonymous with the X-Men mutant, Logan/Wolverine. After debuting in 2000’s X-Men, the Australian actor would reprise the role numerous times across the long-running Fox film series and the adjacent Wolverine solo film trilogy.Credit: Marvel StudiosWill Hugh Jackman Return as Wolverine? After concluding the solo series with 2017’s Logan, Jackman said that would be the last time he’d ever play the character. But years later, he returned in Deadpool & Wolverine opposite Ryan Reynolds’ Wade Wilson (although the pair first appeared together in 2009’s X-Men Origins: Wolverine). Like Logan, the crossover film, which is the third entry in the Deadpool series, became a huge critical and commercial success. But despite the film also forming part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Jackman has yet to return in any project.Credit: Marvel StudiosAvengers: Doomsday Wolverine Cameo RumorsThere are reports that Jackman will return in Avengers: Doomsday, opposite Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man. According to unverified claims from MyTimeToShineHello and reported by Comic Book Movie, Wolverine will face off against Spidey in the film’s opening sequence. But while those rumors continue, Marvel has yet to announce anything.Credit: Inside the MagicRelated: Deadpool and Wolverine Have Already Been Recast, as Ryan Reynolds Casts Doubt Over MCU ReturnOf course, it’s possible the studio is holding back some cameos, which wouldn’t be surprising given how many actors have already been confirmed to appear in the film. The extensive cast includes Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Paul Rudd (Scott Lang/Ant-Man), Sebastian Stan (Bucky Barnes), Tom Hiddleston (Loki), Florence Pugh (Yelena Belova), Letitia Wright (Shuri/Black Panther), Chris Evans (Steve Rogers), and Pedro Pascal (Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic).Robert Downey Jr. is also back, this time playing Victor von Doom/Doctor Doom and not Tony Stark/Iron Man.Both Images Credit: Marvel StudiosWhich X-Men Will Return in Doomsday?Of course, it would make perfect sense to see Jackman and Maguire back. Similarly to Jackman in Deadpool & Wolverine, Maguire appeared in the Multiversal film Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) opposite Andrew Garfield and Tom Holland. Jackman’s appearance in Doomsday would make more sense than Maguire’s, though, given how many X-Men characters are confirmed to appear in the film. There’s Ian McKellen’s Erik Lehnsherr/Magneto, Alan Cumming’s Kurt Wagner/Nightcrawler, Rebecca Romijn’s Raven Darkhölme/Mystique, James Marsden’s Scott Summers/Cyclops, Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier/Professor X (who also appeared in 2022’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness), and Kelsey Grammer’s Hank McCoy/Beast (who also appeared at the end of 2023’s The Marvels).Channing Tatum also returns as Remy LeBeau/Gambit, as seen in Deadpool & Wolverine. The upcoming film already has an X-Men-focused teaser, which features Professor X, Magneto, and Cyclops. However, Wolverine is nowhere to be seen.Wolverine Has Already Been RecastIt’s surprising that there have been no solid plans for the character to return in the MCU (the same goes for Deadpool) given how successful Deadpool & Wolverine was. With all that said, Wolverine will return in other corners of the wider Marvel franchise, most notably in video game form later this year.Developed by Insomniac Games and published by Sony Interactive Entertainment, Marvel’s Wolverine is a brutal third-person action-adventure starring the mutant anti-hero, in which Logan/Wolverine is voiced by another Australian actor — this time, Liam McIntyre of Gears of War fame. The game tells an original, self-contained story.“As he searches for answers about his past, Wolverine will do whatever it takes, unleashing brutal claw combat, violent rage, and relentless determination, to cut through the mystery of the man he used to be,” the synopsis reads.
