We have now taken a look at where Jan Paul van Hecke would fit into Tottenham Hotspur’s wage structure following the club’s latest transfer bid.Tottenham Hotspur know they must move quickly if they are to secure the services of Jan Paul van Hecke this summer transfer window.Chelsea and Liverpool remain interested in signing Van Hecke alongside Spurs. Liverpool has only just lost Ibrahima Konate after his contract expired, and will be looking to fill that void. The Reds can also offer the Dutchman Champions League football. Chelsea, on the other hand, under the guidance of Xabi Alonso, will be aiming to add some experience to a largely inexperienced defence. With van Hecke being valued between £50m and £70m, he is set to become one of Spurs’ marquee signings should he secure a move to N17 this summer.Photo by Mike Hewitt/Getty ImagesTottenham can compete financially for Jan Paul van HeckeHanding Van Hecke strong personal terms will go a long way towards convincing him to join Tottenham ahead of their rivals.Spurs Web can now confirm that Spurs will be able to meet the Dutchman’s wage demands and compete with the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea in that regard.Based on data from Capology, Van Hecke’s current contract with Brighton has him earning £50,000 a week, which amounts to £2.6m a year. The defender also receives a £650,000 yearly bonus, taking his total gross pay to £3.25m annually. That will be welcome news for the Lilywhites, who could comfortably double Van Hecke’s wages without disrupting their wage structure, which is capped at £200,000 per week. However, Spurs could fall short should either rival club offer above that figure, although that appears unlikely.Should Tottenham double his wages, he will earn similar money to Richarlison, Micky van de Ven and Dejan Kulusevski. Richarlison and Van de Ven are both on £90,000 per week, while Kulusevski earns £110,000, and the trio are among the club’s top seven earners.Keeping him on £50,000, which appears unlikely, would see Van Hecke earn the same as the likes of Mathys Tel and Yves Bissouma, with the latter expected to leave Spurs this summer as his contract nears its expiry.Spurs targeting defender suited to De Zerbi systemIt is very clear why Tottenham are looking to secure the services of Van Hecke ahead of next season.Of course, his relationship with Roberto De Zerbi is a major factor. The pair worked together for two years during the Italian’s spell as manager, and as a result, he knows his system. However, while Van Hecke did not feature much under De Zerbi in his first season in charge, he earned more starts the following campaign, making 28 appearances.Since then, the Brighton centre-back has only grown in stature as a combative, ball-playing centre-back who is comfortable in possession. In the 2024/25 season, the defender was among the top-performing Premier League defenders in terms of progressive passes and progressive carries. In 2025/26, he improved those numbers even further. That hints at Tottenham targeting defenders capable of helping build play through their passing and ball-carrying ability, qualities both Van Hecke and incoming Marcos Senesi excel in.SeasonPasses completedForward pass %Progressive passesPossession wonDefensive duel %Aerial duel %Progressive carriesMinutes2024/2577.974.894.814.230.468.295.333332025/2686.076.998.748.778.241.199.1Jan Paul van Hecke’s underlying numbers have improved significantly over the last two Premier League campaigns, particularly in possession-based metrics and ball progression.READ MORE: Tottenham handed a major Pedro Porro transfer boost thanks to Inter MilanThe post How much Jan Paul van Hecke earns at Brighton and the wages Tottenham could offer him appeared first on Spurs Web.
