Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever ended their two-game losing skid with an 83-71 win over the Atlanta Dream in their WNBA Commissioner’s Cup matchup on Thursday. The win also saw the WNBA superstar take a 5-1 lead in the head-to-head between her and her long-time on-court rival Angel Reese – who was booed by the Gainbridge Fieldhouse crowd during player introductions.Clark is now 5-1 over longtime rival ReeseGettyIn the contest, the Indiana Fever guard looked markedly improved on both ends of the ball, dropping 17 points, seven rebounds, eight assists and one block in the victory, while Reese finished with an 11 point, 10 rebound double-double. In fact, the Fever defensively looked a much more solid unit, holding the Dream to their lowest-scoring game of the season in which they shot a season-low 34.3 percent from the field, while it is also the fewest points that Indiana have allowed all season long. But Clark wasn’t well during the contest either, which makes her performance all the more remarkable. The 24-year-old revealed after the game that at half time, she was violently sick, but felt much better after it all exited her system, so continued to play. “I had to throw up … but you just keep playing,” Clark told reporters. “I love this game and I’m competitive and I was going to do anything I could to help this team win, and I thought we played a really, really good game and we probably could have even made a few more baskets, but we guarded.“We guarded really, really well. And if we’re able to do that the rest of the year, we’re going to be in a really good position to be successful.”Clark may have gone into too much detail on the incident, joking with the reporters that it made her feel ‘light’ for the second half. “I [feel] a little sick. I don’t know,” she added. “I tried to eat some applesauce, and then it just came up, and then everything else in my stomach also came up. “I thought I was gonna stay down, but then I found a trash can thank god. I haven’t puked that much in a really long time. But then I felt fine. I felt light, so I was running around feeling good in the second half. I feel alright, I’ll be good.”Clark was instrumental to the Fever’s win over AtlantaGettyClark revealed she vomited at half time but continued to play after it made her feel betterGettyAt this moment it is undetermined whether Clark’s sickness resulted from over-exertion, or whether she is carrying an illness – something Fever head coach Stephanie White indicated the team would be looking into. “I have no idea what that was, but yeah, I mean she was gassed,” White said. “She was playing both ends and she was doing a great job and was running the team. “And you know when you lay it on the line, you get gassed. I don’t know what the issue was with the vomiting, but we’ll see.” Clark and White hyped upClark and the Fever have been at the center of a media storm over the past week or so, with all indications suggesting that frustrations were brewing within the organization. This came after footage of a heated exchange between the Fever guard and her head coach went viral on social media, prompting some to believe the two were involved in some sort of behind-the-scense feud. While both played the interaction down publicly, during the win over Atlanta, the pair were pumped with the two seen chest bumping before embracing each other during their 18-3 run in the third quarter. Clark and White hugged it outGettyView Tweet: https://t.co/oSg5e7C5dNClark was asked about that particular moment after the game, and yet again, she showed her humor.“She’s had a lot of surgeries. So, I could’ve hurt her honestly,” Clark joked. “She’s fiery and competitive so she shows passion too and she hypes her players up. We were both just hyped and s*** – excuse me – my mom’s gonna be mad about that. Hopefully she doesn’t see that.“But that stuff happens. I wouldn’t want to play for any other coach that’s just stoic. Like I love that. That got me hyped, the chest bump … but I thought that was just the story of the night. “The energy, the emotion and it felt like we were playing for the people to our left and to our right. Some games are gonna stink and you’re not always gonna have it. … “We could have even played better and shot better, but it’s because we were all connected and playing for each other that we found a lot of success.”Indiana now improve to 5-4 on the season, with a trip to Barclays Center in New York to face the New York Liberty (6-4) on Saturday night coming up next.
