Carrie Season 2: What We Know

Wait 5 sec.

This story contains spoilers for Carrie on Prime Video.Adaptations of Stephen King’s 1974 novel, Carrie, have all followed a very similar formula—Carrie gets bullied by her classmates after starting high school, discovers she has telekinetic powers that her mother wishes to suppress, and burns everything to the ground at prom after a cruel prank leaves her humiliated—but Prime Video’s Carrie series offers an alternative ending that leaves the door open for a potential season 2.Here’s what we know about Carrie returning for a second season.Jump to:Has Carrie been renewed for season 2?What will season 2 be about?Who is in the cast?Has Carrie been renewed for season 2?Amazon’s streaming platform, Prime Video, has not renewed Carrie for a second season yet, but showrunner Mike Flanagan said he intentionally left room in the plot for a potential continuation of the series.“We wanted very much to just try to focus on making it to that last frame of this season, in case it was a one-off season and we’d never return to this world again. We wanted to serve that arc and send the story off right,” he said in an interview with People. “But it was very much on my mind that there was so much potential for it to expand further, and we wanted to leave room for that too.”“In a dream scenario, I think it’d be really cool [to continue the story],” he added. “I’ve never gotten to do that. And we certainly tried to leave the ingredients there for that to be the case,” he added. “If she has a future, I hope that she gets to return to her light self and find that part—the Carrie that wanted to go to school and experience things. I hope she finds that again.”What will season 2 be about? The miniseries ends very differently than King’s book. Like the original, Carrie is still elected prom queen, gets doused in pig’s blood, and kills around 200 people with her telekinetic powers. But there’s a twist—her friend, Emaline, uses astral projection to take over Carrie’s body and contributes to the destruction of the school and the town of Chamberlain. In the book, Carrie dies after her mother stabs her in the back, but she survives the stab wound in the series; her mother, Margaret, dies when Adelaide—who interviewed the few prom survivors—uses her own telekinetic powers to stop Margaret’s heart from beating. After destroying her home, Carrie finds herself in the passenger seat of Emaline’s car the following morning. The pair leaves Chamberlain together, with Emaline refusing to tell Carrie where they’re headed. There are no plot details for season 2 yet, but Flanagan would love for Carrie to find herself if her story continues.Who is in the cast?Fans would expect Summer H. Howell to come back to play the titular character, in addition to Thalia Dudek as Emaline. Kate Siegel, Siena Agudong, and Josie Totah—who play surviving characters Adelaide, Sue Snell, and Tina Blake, respectively—could also return should the series get a renewal.
