The Ministry of Environment, Forestry & Tourism will be coordinating the planting of two million trees across Namibia by 2035 under its proposed National Strategy on Tree Planting 2026-2035.🌳 The strategy targets one million trees planted and maintained by 2030, increasing to two million by 2035, as Namibia seeks to address the loss of approximately 20% of its forests over the past three decades due to deforestation, wildfires, drought, and unsustainable harvesting. The nationwide initiative will involve all 14 regions, with regional councils, local authorities, schools, private businesses, communities, and individual citizens expected to participate in planting and maintaining trees. Under the strategy, at least 70% of monitored trees must survive for three years after planting, with designated individuals and institutions responsible for their watering, protection and maintenance. The ministry also intends to establish a national monitoring system to track planting activities and survival rates. submitted by /u/namibpulse [link] [comments]
