Trainers Philip D'Amato and Antonio Garcia sent out their respective hopefuls for the World Championships Saturday morning at Santa Anita with the former sending out a quartet led by Breeders' Cup Turf contender Gold Phoenix (Ire) (Belardo {Ire}).The perennially classy gelding worked five furlongs in company on the tracking track in :59.60 (5/15) in preparation for his fifth straight appearance at the Breeders' Cup.“Good drill,” D'Amato said. “This was his heavy-lifting work. He'll have an easy one next week and then we'll go to Kentucky.”Sorrento Sky (Ire) (Prince of Lir {Ire}), who is targeting the Turf Sprint, also breezed five panels in :58.80 (1/15) in what ultimately became the bullet of the morning. It was his second work since winning the GII Eddie D Sept. 26. Thought Process (Collected) was clocked working an easy half-mile in :48.40 (20/68) while Majestic Oops (Majestic Harbor) went five furlongs in 1:01.60 (37/58). The latter, who last year tried her luck in the Distaff, will target the Filly & Mare Sprint this season.D'Amato said that his contenders will be on a plane to Kentucky after their works next week.Net Par Prepares for Breeders' Cup JuvenileTrainer Antonio Garcia's Net Par (Pavel), the runner-up to Hughes (Into Mischief) in the GI American Pharoah Stakes earlier this month, cruised through five furlongs in 1:00.40 (17/58) in his first work since the aforementioned Grade I contest.“He cruised around there pretty easy,” Garcia said. “[Jockey] Juan [Hernandez] was pretty happy with the way he did it and galloped out. It will depend on how he's doing tomorrow, but more than likely we're going to the Breeders' Cup [Juvenile].”“We were trying to see this morning if he came out of that last race well. It was a lot to ask of him and he ran a good race. I wanted to get Juan's opinion and he was pretty happy, so I'll take his word.”Should Net Par make the Juvenile, he would be Garcia's first Breeders' Cup starter. The post Santa Anita Works: D’Amato Quartet Continues Breeders’ Cup Preps appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
