The social status of people belonging to the backward, most backward and scheduled castes of the Hindu religion remains the same even if they convert to another religion; there is no change in it. Similarly, not all religious conversions take place to elevate social status. In such a context, it would be right and socially just to grant reservation to a person based on caste, irrespective of religion,” he said.Published - October 18, 2026 12:44 am ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
