Have you tried giving your AI tools a memory of your project? What made you keep it or drop it?

Wait 5 sec.

Question for people building side projects with ChatGPT, Claude, Cursor or whatever else you use. There are a lot of ways to make an AI remember your project now. The built-in memory in ChatGPT and Claude, project files, a notes doc you paste in at the start, rules files in the repo, and memory servers you plug in over MCP. I'm curious what people actually ended up with. What do you use right now, if anything? Or do you just explain the project again each session? If you tried something and dropped it, what killed it? Setup took too long, it remembered the wrong things, privacy, cost, or it only worked inside one tool? If you never tried a memory add-on at all, was it that you didn't know they existed, or it just didn't seem worth the hassle? And roughly what's the project? Your own product, client work, something for fun? Background, since someone usually asks: I used to burn hours re-briefing AI tools on the same project, so I'm building a fix for it. Memory kept in the cloud that every tool reads over MCP, so they all share the same context and there's no file to keep updated. No link here, I'm trying to find out if this is a real problem for other people or just me. Would you pay for something like that, or is a pasted doc good enough? submitted by /u/Asly97 [link] [comments]
