As someone who experienced the corporate bullying, exploitation, and overall toxicity, I am getting hesitant about the burnout nursing can bring. Are there currently any 2nd degree nurses wanting to switch back?

Wait 5 sec.

I currently have BBA in Supply Chain, but working a patient-facing job outside of my degree due to the job market. I am finishing my last two prerequisites and will start applying soon. I’ve always wanted to become a nurse two years into my previous degree, but committed to my BBA, due to the amount of money I put in it during the time of my first degree, and I wanted to still give it a shot, so now I’m currently back in school now that I have the time. I am also loving my science classes as well much more compared to my business classes which I found mundane and boring. I am still hoping to land a job in supply chain to gain more experience, but the current market is just not working out, so I am taking the time to take prerequisites while working patient-facing jobs to get the raw experience of what I’m getting into. However, as someone who has experienced burnout from the toxic corporate culture, bullying from managers and coworkers, favoritism, and stressful over-exploitation, I am starting to have my doubts as I am starting to experience the unfair treatment and overexploitation of the patient-facing side of the medical field. I am pretty hesitant, because nursing burnout, due to the mentioned things above, are no different than corporate if so even worse. I can also be a pretty easy target due to my speech impediment which leads to mistreatment of my coworkers thinking I’m incompetent. In my current job, while it can be fulfilling even when my patient tends to mistreat me, I can definitely see the point where it starts to not get fulfilling and just gets draining. For my patients bullying me, I just try to brush it off and make their needs first, but there are some days where they weigh me down not only from unfair treatment but from exploitation through my manager. I was also pretty underpaid at my previous job compared to my colleagues for the work and the amount of work I was doing, and I know this is no stranger in nursing as this also leads to burnout. Before making the switch, I first weighed out the bullshit in corporate and nursing, thinking I would trade the toxicity in corporate for nursing, but the more I gain firsthand experience, the more I realize how worse the burnout can be. I didn’t pivot to escape the bullshit from corporate culture and the job market nor for the money. I pivoted, because I love learning about science and applying science hands on to help people. My mom, who is also a nurse with burnout, is discouraging me as well. I also have other nurse friends who currently don’t like what they’re doing and want out of nursing/switch to the more technical/corporate side of nursing. Edit: I can also be an easy target due to my speech impediment which leads to mistreatment among my coworkers as they see me as incompetent. submitted by /u/Clear_Leadership5494 [link] [comments]
