Thousands of migrant labourers of Srikakulam district lost their voting right due to SIR, alleges Congress leader - The HinduPublished - October 18, 2026 12:34 pm IST - SRIKAKULAM:Srikakulam District Congress Committee former President Pedada Parameswara Rao on Saturday alleged thousands of migrant labourers of Srikakulam district had lost their voting right due to Special Intensive Revision (SIR) that was taken by the Election Commission of India. Speaking to media here, he said Srikakulam was known for migrant labourers who would come to festivals and elections and other important occasions to their native places.“For the livelihood, they stay in other cities but they have not permanently shifted to other places. Their families stay in their native places. Their Aadhar cards are also having Srikakulam district address. It is unfair to remove their names during SIR process. Unfortunately, they don’t get voting right where they are working. ECI must look into the issue and restore their voting right,” said Parameswara Rao. He said that he had brought to the issue to the party high command also since more than 5 lakh people of Srikakulam migrated temporarily to other places for their livelihood.Published - October 18, 2026 12:34 pm ISTSign in to unlock member-only benefits!Access 10 free stories every monthSave stories to read laterAccess to comment on every storySign-up/manage your newsletter subscriptions with a single clickGet notified by email for early access to discounts & offers on our products${ ind + 1 } ${ device }Last active - ${ la }
