A Magic Kingdom Park guest recently went viral on Instagram after wearing a low-cut corset inspired by Princess Tiana and refusing to change when a Walt Disney World Resort cast member claimed that her outfit violated the park’s dress code. What Does the Disney Dress Code Say?Credit: Sarah Larson, Inside the MagicSome parts of Walt Disney World Resort’s dress code are specific and leave no room for interpretation; for example, guests cannot wear clothing featuring profanities or bring prop weapons into the Disney parks. However, many of the attire policies are left up to the discretion of Disney cast members. The complete rules read:Proper attire, including shoes and shirts, must be worn at all times. Clothing that drags on the ground is prohibited in theme parks and water parks. Clothing with multiple layers is subject to search. We reserve the right to deny admission to or remove any person wearing attire that we consider inappropriate or attire that could detract from the experience of other Guests. Visible tattoos that could be considered inappropriate, such as those containing objectionable language or designs, are not permitted. There are specific costume guidelines for special events such as Halloween parties and runDisney events; please refer to the additional policies applicable to those events.Costumes may not be worn in our theme parks, water parks or ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex by Guests ages 14 or older.Masks may not be worn by any Guests ages 14 or older (unless required for medical purposes). When worn by younger Guests, masks may not cover the entire face and must provide unobstructed peripheral vision at all times with openings that allow the eyes to be fully seen.Credit: Inside the MagicTypically, a “costume” refers to an outfit so similar to a specific character that guests may mistake another visitor for an entertainment cast member. Though this guest’s Princess Tiana-inspired look was more of a Disney Bound than a true costume, at least one cast member felt it was “inappropriate” for the Magic Kingdom and requested she change. The Outfit That Allegedly Violated the Disney Dress CodeIn a now-viral Instagram video, an influencer named Ka’Neisha Collins (@collins_kai) complained to her over 350,000 followers about an elderly cast member who asked her to cover up or change out of her green corset, which was inspired by Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog (2009). View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ka’Neisha Collins (@collins_kai)Collins said at least eight other guests complimented her outfit before an “old ass lady in her 70s” approached and asked if she had another shirt or a new outfit to change into.“You can’t wear this,” the Disney cast member reportedly explained.“How come?” the guest replied. “Everybody else has on corsets… I’ve seen about five people wearing corsets.”Credit: Disney“She said, ‘You’re too heavy at the top. You need to change,'” Collins recalled. “I can’t help that I was born with DDs.”After another Disney Park guest complimented her outfit mid-recording, Collins announced that she did not change and planned to continue exploring the Magic Kingdom in her Princess Tiana outfit.“I’ve been walking around this goddamn park the way the lord made me,” she said. “Disney, y’all try that shit again, trying to discriminate against me because of my cup size… I’m still here. I didn’t leave. She pissed me off.”Credit: Theme Park Tourist, FlickrIt doesn’t appear that the original cast member called security or that Collins was asked to change again during the rest of her day at the Magic Kingdom.Disney Parks Fans DebateAs with any viral video regarding an incident at the Disney parks, Collins’ account of the dress code incident sparked a fierce debate in the comments. Many sided with the Disney cast member and agreed that her outfit was inappropriate for a family-friendly vacation destination like Walt Disney World Resort.Credit: terren in Virginia, Flickr“Outfit is cute, but not appropriate for the venue,” @thesmolistalien commented. “Simple The worker should have chosen her words better, though.”“I’m not hating and everyone can do what they want lol but you def could be more cognizant/mindful of having your girls out at a place geared toward kids/families,” @viaasimone agreed.Still, others defended the guest and argued that someone with a smaller bust size wouldn’t have been asked to change.Credit: Steven Miller, Flickr“First of all I was JUST at Disney and there was SO MANY woman with their girls OUT,” said @not.ur.bb. “There’s really no reason they should’ve told you something if they don’t tell EVERYBODY something!!”“It’s a lawsuit waiting for u if u do it right,” @1700slim replied.Influencer RespondsCredit: Michael Gray, FlickrWearing the same outfit as in her original video, Collins responded to someone who accused her of “dressing weird at a kids [park].” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ka’Neisha Collins (@collins_kai)“I’m dressed as Princess Tiana,” she said. “If you look at Princess Tiana’s dress, she also has a strapless dress on, the same way I do. I’m just more top-heavy.”Credit: Disney“I don’t feel my outfit is inappropriate,” the Disney Park guest continued. “I only feel as though they, as well as you, feel as though it’s inappropriate because of how heavy I am…Somebody with A cups could have the exact same thing on; are you going to say, ‘You’re dressing weird?’…You only say that because I’m bigger.”Lastly, Collins argued that Black women are strictly policed for their clothing choices far more than other women.Credit: Xiquinho Silva, Flickr“They only do this when it comes to Black women because our busts and our butts are bigger,” she concluded. “We could have the exact same thing Miley, Haley, Chelsea have on; no one’s going to bat an eye or say anything. When we put it on…now it’s weird, now it’s crazy. If y’all find this weird, it’s because the problem is you. Nothing I have on is weird. The only problem you don’t like is how big I am.”During a visit to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park, Collins wore a similar corset as part of a Moana-inspired Disney Bound. In the comments of a post featuring the outfit, she said no one asked her to change. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Ka’Neisha Collins (@collins_kai)Should Walt Disney World Resort loosen or tighten its dress code policies?
