Walt Disney World continues to make changes across its theme parks, and even some of its newer attractions and themed lands aren’t escaping the updates. At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, construction projects and entertainment additions have kept things moving as Disney prepares for the park’s next chapter. However, not every change involves a major attraction closing or an entirely new experience opening.Credit: Martin Lewison, FlickrSometimes, Disney replaces smaller details that guests have walked past thousands of times without giving them much thought. That’s exactly what’s happening inside Toy Story Land, where Disney has started removing familiar fixtures and replacing them with something a little more modern. And after eight years of welcoming visitors into Andy’s backyard, the land is getting more than one noticeable update.Disney World Begins Replacing Toy Story Land Fixtures After 8 YearsToy Story Land opened at Disney’s Hollywood Studios on June 30, 2018, introducing guests to an oversized backyard inspired by the beloved Pixar franchise. The land features popular attractions such as Slinky Dog Dash, Alien Swirling Saucers, and Toy Story Mania!, along with colorful decorations that make visitors feel as though they’ve shrunk to the size of a toy.Nearly everything inside the land follows that playful theme, including objects that guests might otherwise overlook. Now, Disney is replacing some of those familiar details.According to reports from WDWMAGIC, Disney has started removing the older trash cans throughout Toy Story Land and installing new solar-powered waste and recycling containers. The replacement bins feature bright green, blue, and yellow colors designed to blend into the land’s oversized toy aesthetic. They also include hand-lettered labels identifying waste and recycling containers.Guests can already spot the new additions near the giant Woody statue at the entrance and around the Toy Story Mania! attraction building.Although replacing trash cans might not sound particularly exciting, these aren’t ordinary containers.Disney is introducing technology that could change how waste gets collected throughout the park. Why Disney Is Removing the Older Trash CansThe new containers are Bigbelly Smart Max units, which offer several advantages over traditional theme park trash cans.Unlike the older containers, the replacements feature solar-powered technology that allows them to operate without electrical wiring. They also contain sensors that monitor how full each container becomes. That information helps Disney’s cast members determine when trash needs to be collected, potentially preventing overflowing containers during especially crowded park days.Perhaps the biggest difference involves how much waste the new bins can hold.Credit: DisneyThe built-in compactors allow them to accommodate approximately five to 10 times more trash than a standard container before requiring collection. For a busy destination like Disney’s Hollywood Studios, that could mean fewer interruptions for waste collection and more efficient operations.Toy Story Land isn’t the first location to receive the new equipment, either.Disney has already introduced similar containers around Hollywood Boulevard, the park’s entrance plaza, and portions of EPCOT.While the technology remains the same, Disney has customized the appearance of the bins to match their surroundings. The Toy Story Land versions maintain the colorful, playful design guests have come to expect from Andy’s backyard. And while these changes are relatively small compared to major attraction projects, they show that Disney continues updating even the most basic parts of its theme parks.Toy Story Land Also Welcomes a New CharacterThe trash can replacements aren’t the only recent changes inside Toy Story Land.Disney has also introduced Lilypad, a new character inspired by Pixar’s Toy Story 5 (2026).The interactive character recently debuted near Alien Swirling Saucers, bringing another entertainment element to the popular themed area.Lilypad has taken on the role of DJ, providing music and adding a new personality to the attraction’s surrounding area. The addition gives visitors something different to experience while spending time in Toy Story Land, particularly those who have already visited the area several times. It also connects the existing themed land with the newest installment in Pixar’s long-running franchise. While Toy Story Land has remained a popular destination since opening in 2018, Disney continues finding ways to introduce new details without completely changing the area’s original identity.Between Lilypad’s arrival and the ongoing replacement of older trash cans, guests returning to Hollywood Studios may notice several differences during their next visit. And with Disney continuing to roll out its new waste collection technology across the resort, additional replacements could be coming to other themed areas in the months ahead. For now, Toy Story Land’s latest updates show that even eight years after opening, Andy’s backyard is still changing. In addition to the changes at Toy Story Land, the bigger alterations at Disney’s Hollywood Studios are happening around the theme park. Monstropolis is getting closer to its phased opening, while the brand-new Magic of Disney Animation experience just opened.Inside the Magic will keep you updated on everything happening at Walt Disney World. The post After 8 Years, Disney Confirms Toy Story Land Removals at Hollywood Studios appeared first on Inside the Magic.
