Wait 5 sec.

One role, ten responsibility areas, more than 80 job titles. New research from Corefy maps how companies define payment management today, and why the role is starting to split into distinct specializations.Payments have moved from a back-office function to a direct driver of revenue, cost, and customer experience. Yet companies still disagree on what the person running them should own.To find out, Corefy analyzed 112 Payment Manager job descriptions published in 2025 and 2026 across 15+ countries and 19 industries. The report documents the responsibilities, skills, KPIs, stakeholders, and technology expectations companies attach to the role, and adds commentary from payment leaders at Ecommpay, Cryptopay, Coinspaid, GR8_TECH, Fintech Wrap Up, and others.Key findings:No shared definition. The 112 job descriptions use 80+ unique title variants for what is often the same core function, which suggests companies are still deciding where payments sit in the organization.Approval rate is the #1 named KPI. The role is increasingly measured by payment performance and outcomes, not just by keeping operations running.Analytics leads the scope. Reporting and analytics form the strongest responsibility cluster, and product-related work is now a common part of the remit.Operations still dominate the framing. 55% of job descriptions frame the role operationally, 34% strategically, and 11% as a mix of both.Reliability comes first. At the business-goal level, the role is most often tied to payment reliability (18.6%), operational efficiency (12.6%), and compliance readiness (12.6%).The report gives hiring managers, Heads of Payments, and payment professionals a fact-based benchmark: what the role includes today, how requirements differ by industry, and where many teams are still under-scoping it.ReportsYeshttps://corefy.com/guides/the-state-of-the-payment-manager-role?utm_source=financialit&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=payment_manager_report_2026&utm_content=reports_sectionDownload the full report
