I’m starting to think my biggest competitor is an Excel spreadsheet.

Wait 5 sec.

I’ve been building a Shopify inventory tool for months, and I spent so much time thinking about other apps I’d be competing with. But I’m starting to realise the biggest competitor might just be a spreadsheet someone has been using for 5 years. It might be ugly, but they know how it works. It costs nothing extra, and they trust it. Meanwhile, I’m asking someone to install a new app, pay a subscription, and trust it with their inventory. That’s a bigger ask than I originally thought. I haven’t landed my first real merchant customer yet, so I’m trying to understand what actually makes someone switch. For anyone who’s sold software to small businesses, what finally convinced your first customer to ditch their spreadsheet? Was it wasted time, expensive mistakes, or something else? Would love to hear how it actually happened. submitted by /u/Reasonable_Major_458 [link] [comments]
