Following todayโs FIFA Council in Zรผrich, the RBFA reaffirms its position on the Balogun case. Beyond the discussions and rule changes, our federation expects clear and concrete answers to the fundamental questions this case raises. As a member of the FIFA Council, RBFA President Pascale Van Damme put three questions to FIFA: 1: President Donald Trump publicly acknowledged intervening in the Balogun case. Can FIFA guarantee there was no interference of any kind during the disciplinary procedure? 2: What were the exceptional circumstances, and which criteria apply to Article 27 in comparable cases? 3: Will member associations have the right to be heard in all future decisions by FIFAโs disciplinary bodies? FIFA emphasized that all decisions are taken independently by the disciplinary bodies. Following these questions, FIFA also confirmed that Article 27 will be amended. The proposal will be put to a vote in Doha on 16 December, along with an explanation of the specific circumstances of the Balogun case. Pascale Van Damme: โThat FIFA confirms Article 27 will be amended, which we already requested in July, is an important step. For us, it doesnโt stop there. We want not only the rules to be amended, but also clarity on how they are applied. Transparency, legal certainty and good governance must form the basis of every decision in international football. We will continue to follow this case closely.โ submitted by /u/Sparky-moon [link] [comments]
