This new competitive map pool is the worst one the game has seen yet

Wait 5 sec.

I'm not going to pull an old valorant-er shakes fist at cloud moment here, but the current map pool that came into effect at the start of this act is certainly the worst set of maps I have ever played. Don't get me wrong, I like some of the seven, but having only one or two to wish for when queuing for an entire 3 months is really disheartening, and makes me not as excited to climb as previous acts' pools have made me. On top of this, the system in place whereby we have 7 maps only in a competitive season that lasts about a few months is just poor implementation. This sort of thing worked when there were only around a small litter of maps to choose from, and when one new one came out, one old one had a respite. The issue now is that there are 12 maps in the game now, and there is a great variety of opinions and objective truths about each of them. Some maps are better than others, ill say it. Some maps are overplayed, some are underplayed. In the same vein, some are overhyped, and others are underhyped. The issue with the current systems in place is that no matter the playerbase's opinion on these maps, they do not influence what gets played. Instead, devs choose which ones get phased in an out in droves, which can throw players off kilter and in some cases just kick their love for the game out the window because there is no security in the maps they enjoy playing. That is why I think riot should overhaul the map system. Fuck a chosen 7 for the whole act, and make a pool of around 10, that are chosen by a community vote. Make it a whole event where there is a bracket system if they really want to farm social engagement. Then, once we have our pool of 10, lets see a banning system! Premier in CS has this and it works flawlessly. There are loads of maps to choose from, and each team before agent select gets to phase out the maps they dont want to play in sequential turns, and finally we get left with a map that both teams have worked together to choose, based off of a community driven pool. I think this would also fix dodging entirely. I can't think of a single downside to this idea besides the fact that the banning system could lead to only 1` or 2 maps being played like we see in cs with dust and mirage, but that is an issue that the players themselves have fixed in that game by banning those maps first in direct protest. What are your opinions on this? Am i fucking stupid or would this be an awesome addition? submitted by /u/Total-Locksmith-7592 to r/VALORANT [link] [comments]
