Built a 100% client-side WebGL 2.0 3D model inspector, converter & GPU VRAM profiler (zero server uploads)

Wait 5 sec.

Hi r/webgl, I wanted to share a 100% client-side 3D inspection studio and format converter I built on top of WebGL 2.0 and Three.js: 🔗 Live App (Free, zero login, zero server uploads): https://viewer.artoli3d.com Key WebGL & Graphics Engineering Features: 1. Zero-Upload Local Decoding: Parses 15+ formats (GLB, GLTF, FBX, OBJ+MTL, STL, 3MF, PLY, USDZ, DAE, VTK, PCD, and .zip archives via in-memory fflate blob resolution) directly in browser memory with Draco and KTX2 UASTC GPU transcoding. 2. Custom Diagnostic Shaders: • gl_FrontFacing normal orientation pass (Blue front faces / Red inverted faces) for catching backface culling and winding defects. • Depth-biased Wireframe Overlay rendered cleanly atop ACESFilmic PBR materials. • Fresnel X-Ray, Clay/Plaster matcap-style studio lighting, Unlit Albedo, and mesh component segmentation. 3. GPU VRAM Footprint Estimation & Strict Disposal: Calculates geometry attribute buffer bytes vs. texture/mipmap memory and enforces deterministic disposal across model swaps to prevent WebGL context loss. 4. Signed Tetrahedron Volume & Clipping Planes: Real-time $cm^3$ volume calculation and X/Y/Z cross-section slicing planes for 3D printing pre-flight. 5. Offscreen 4K Cutout & WebM Alpha Turntable Recorder: Deterministic frame capture with transparent alpha channel support. Would love any technical feedback from the WebGL community! submitted by /u/Unhappy_Stomach9637 to r/webgl [link] [comments]
