I'm a solo dev and I realised screen time tells me minutes, never how many short videos I burned through. So I measured: 1,327 reels and shorts in one week, about 190 a day. Humbling. So I built Doomy (free, Android). What it does: Counts reels/shorts across Instagram, YouTube, Facebook and X Today vs yesterday, per-app split, hourly trend, 7-day history Floating counter + home-screen widget A little mascot that goes from chill to doomed as the number climbs The part I'm proudest of: it has no INTERNET permission, so it physically can't upload anything. No account, no ads, no analytics; it stores only counts per app per hour. The hard bit was detecting a swipe at all. It uses Android's Accessibility Service for that single event, with a plain-language consent screen before anything is enabled. Play Store: Would love honest feedback: if you were using this, would you want daily limits, a nudge when you pass a number, or full blocking? (Independent app, not affiliated with Meta, Google or X. I'm the developer.) Link of the App - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.jugnik.doomy submitted by /u/dpkdns [link] [comments]
