I accidentally no call no showed and now I feel like I look like a terrible employee

Wait 5 sec.

I’m a new grad RN in a hospital residency program and I missed all of last week because I was hospitalized. I had a miscarriage with retained tissue that gave me an infection in my uterus and I had to stay for a few days for IV antibiotics. I hadn’t told anyone at work I was pregnant yet and when it happened I didn’t give them the details I just told my manager that I was in the hospital. By the time I was discharged, I actually felt a lot better than when I was admitted and thought I’d be okay to plan to return to work today. Since getting home I’ve actually kind of gone backwards physically. I’ve been having pretty bad fatigue and weakness that’s gotten progressively worse to the point that I didn’t wake up at all for the 5 alarms I had set for work today, and I haven’t been able to stand for more than a few minutes without getting dizzy or feeling like I’m going to pass out. I didn’t feel great yesterday but it definitely wasn’t this bad and I fully intended on going to work and had several alarms set. I have no recollection of waking up to them at all. I had them set for 5am and didn’t wake until 3pm. By the time I had woken up I already missed most of my shift. I emailed my manager as soon as I realized and apologized for the situation and not notifying her sooner, and explained that I overestimated how quickly I’d recover. I also told her I don’t think I can safely work my shift tomorrow if I’m still feeling this weak. I offered to provide whatever documentation they need from me. I know a no-call/no-show looks awful, especially as a new employee, and that’s what’s bothering me. I never do things like this and I’m honestly embarrassed because I feel like I just made myself look incredibly unreliable. I also felt kind of weird giving my manager that much detail because I don’t want it to sound like I’m oversharing or trying to get sympathy from her, but I also felt like she needed the context to understand my situation. If you were my manager would you fire me or nah submitted by /u/Immediate-Curve-4681 [link] [comments]
