Hi, it's been a while since I posted about my feed reader: https://www.reddit.com/r/rss/comments/1vg7izf/i_built_a_feed_reader_free_opensource_self_hosted/ simple-feed-reader is a self-hosted RSS reader (Docker, MIT licence, one line installer) for one person or a few users. Three layouts, a magazine style that works well on phones, optional AI ranking of your unread articles with a provider of your choice. Today I released v1.5.0. Most notable highlights since v1.0.0 are: Bluesky and Mastodon as feeds. Connect your accounts in the settings, then import who you follow, your lists, custom feeds and your Home timeline, and read them next to your RSS. A post is shown the way it looks on the network: just the text with the author's avatar, plus image grids, video, link cards and quoted posts. An author's thread folds into one entry, replies show as comments, and you can like a post or a comment from the reader. Podcasts. A playlist player with episode artwork, previous/next and a reorder panel; the next episode is preloaded so it starts the moment the current one ends. Play and Add-to-playlist sit on every audio entry. "Add feed" accepts a show link from the Apple Podcasts app or a SoundCloud profile URL and resolves it to the RSS feed. YouTube. "Add feed" also accepts a YouTube channel, playlist or video link and subscribes to the channel or playlist behind it. Videos play in the reader with their description, vertical Shorts get a vertical player instead of black bars, and landscape video has a cinema mode. Vimeo, Spotify and Dailymotion embeds render inside articles too. For you. A second recommendation engine: TypeSafe's Jev decision model scores each unread article, beside the existing LLM path. https://github.com/larspohlmann/simple-feed-reader submitted by /u/malanalars to r/rss [link] [comments]
