“It’s easier for me to say that because I have the experience and perspective of a player. I think that as a journalist, I’d really focus my questions… If you want to engage a player, you have to talk to him about the game. You talk to him about the game, about tactics, about how he feels on the field, the things he might have felt, the things he’s analyzed, why he made that move at that moment. You really have to dig deep into the game and the craft. I think that’s the best way to engage a player and the best way to get a player to open up much more. Because I think a lot of players sometimes want to explain the ‘why’ and ‘how’ of an action, a moment, or even a momentum shift, but sometimes the question doesn't come, or sometimes current events push all those moments aside. So I think, based on my experience as a player, if you want to engage a player, talk to them about the game, talk to them about events related to the game. Because at the end of the day, no matter who the player is, if we’re here, it’s because we love the game.” submitted by /u/Sparky-moon [link] [comments]
