De Zerbi has instead leaned on his ball‑playing ability from deep, with van Hecke confidently threading line‑breaking passes. Rather than overlapping, he has inverted to pick out forward runners. His defensive awareness was also on display, making a crucial block after Sakamoto cut inside to shoot following a cutback. 8.Tosin Adarabioyo – Making his first Premier League start, he has featured centrally between van de Ven and van Hecke in build-up play. He has held his own well at the back. 6.Micky van de Ven – The Tottenham captain started with real intent, producing a crunching slide tackle early on to set the tone. Unafraid to push forward, he pressed aggressively into Coventry’s half. Then, late in the first half, he finished as he began – making a crucial last‑ditch tackle just as Thomas‑Asante looked ready to pull the trigger. 8.Andy Robertson – Came in for Destiny Udogie and looked lively from the start, staying high and holding width on the left. He got into good crossing positions, but his delivery has been slightly below his usual standards. 7.Archie Gray – Operating in his preferred number eight role, he has looked tidy in possession, receiving the ball well and picking his moments to drive forward. The youngster has also shown a willingness to get into the box, often making underlapping runs and linking well with Kudus. 7.Sandro Tonali – Looking every bit like a £100 million signing in defensive midfield. The Italian has covered plenty of ground, protecting wide areas when Spurs defend, while also showing his ball-carrying ability when driving forward from deep. 8.Photo by Rob Newell – CameraSport via Getty ImagesJames Maddison – Making his first Tottenham start since 27 April 2025, he marked it with a goal, striking first time from the edge of the box following a Kudus assist. Ironically, he scored from an xG of 0.05, but given Spurs’ struggles in front of goal, it is a welcome boost. 9.Mohammed Kudus – Very lively on the right, mixing his game well by taking on his man both inside and outside. His hard work was rewarded with an assist for Maddison after cutting in from the right. He now has two assists this season. 8.Dominic Solanke – Has not had many chances so far, though van Hecke has looked to find him. Nothing tangible yet, but he remains a focal point. He did manage to get a shot off late on in the half after Tonali found him in the box, but he failed to keep his effort on target. 6.5.Omar Marmoush – Has seen little involvement in attack, with Robertson the main outlet on the left for Tottenham. Marmoush has tucked inside and seen less of the ball, but out of possession he has worked hard tracking runners. 6.The post Tottenham first-half player ratings vs Coventry City as 9/10 star runs the show appeared first on Spurs Web.
