stlroadwatch.com: STL Interactive Map for Hazards and Road Conditions

Wait 5 sec.

Hi STL. A couple winters ago we got hit with a bad snowstorm. A few days later I finally dared to venture out, assuming things had cleared up enough. I was wrong. My car got stuck twice on the way to the hospital. I ended up spinning out in the middle of Delmar and Skinker. All I could think was: it would've been really nice if someone had told me that intersection was a sheet of ice. Later, I looked for resources. Here's what I found: - A map of plow routes — do they even plow? - The Weather Channel — it tells me it's cold, thanks - A MoDOT map with highway cameras and accidents — okay this one is actually low-key decent But nothing that told me which specific roads were passable right now, at street level, for a regular car. So I built STL Road Watch, an interactive map of real-time winter road conditions across St. Louis County. It updates every few 15mins to render precipitation data, and it includes highway cameras. More interestingly, users are able to pin roads on the map with reports of icy conditions, a crash, and more. Photos can be shared and comments can be made. I'm still working on it. Next thing I want to integrate more traffic info. Not sure what else would actually be useful though, which is kind of why I'm posting. What would you like this map to have? stlroadwatch.com submitted by /u/Mental_Training4132 to r/StLouis [link] [comments]
