Humanoid robot walks 1.2 million steps in a grueling 9-day treadmill stress test

Figure AI is putting its latest humanoid robot through an extended endurance test to uncover weaknesses that shorter demonstrations might miss. Figure 03 has covered 348 miles and logged 1.2 million steps during nine consecutive days on a treadmill, CEO Brett Adcock reported on X.Adcock said the experiment began as a side project designed to stress the robot and expose potential failures. The time-lapse shows Figure 03 walking on a treadmill inside a testing facility, with a power cable attached to the robot. The test follows several other attempts by Figure to push its humanoids beyond short demonstrations.Figure 03 targets longer operationIntroduced on Oct. 9, 2025, Figure 03 represents the company’s third-generation humanoid platform. Figure redesigned its hardware to support domestic tasks and commercial work, with manufacturing scale also a priority.F.03 just crossed 9 straight days walking on this treadmill: 348 miles and 1.2 million stepsStarted as a side project to stress the robot for any failures. Let's see how long it can go pic.twitter.com/mxsJcrO8jP— Brett Adcock (@adcock_brett) October 19, 2026The robot features updated cameras that deliver twice the frame rate and one-quarter the latency of its predecessor. Each camera also offers a 60% wider field of view, according to Figure. Its hands incorporate palm cameras and tactile sensors that detect forces as small as three grams.Figure also equipped the robot with wireless inductive charging. Coils inside its feet let it recharge by stepping onto a compatible stand, which delivers power at 2 kilowatts. The system could support extended deployments, although the treadmill post does not explain how charging factored into this particular test.Previous endurance testFigure has already tested its humanoids in a much longer operational demonstration. In May 2026, the company livestreamed Figure 03 robots sorting packages for approximately 200 hours. The run began as an eight-hour demonstration before extending into a nine-day event. The robots collectively processed 249,560 packages during the livestream, according to reports. However, multiple machines rotated through the task, allowing individual units to recharge between shifts. Each robot typically operated for three to four hours before another took over. The treadmill experiment differs because Adcock’s post focuses on accumulated walking distance and steps. It remains unclear whether one robot completed the entire run or how the team managed its power requirements. Those details will help establish what the latest milestone demonstrates about endurance.Figure 02 leaves the fleetFigure’s newer platform also arrives as the company retires its predecessor. On Sept. 30, Figure announced the decommissioning of its Figure 02 fleet as production of Figure 03 expands.Figure 02 marked several milestones, including the company’s first deployment at BMW’s Spartanburg plant in South Carolina. There, the robots handled sheet-metal components during vehicle production. Figure said the deployment contributed to manufacturing more than 30,000 BMW X3 vehicles. The company chose to retire the older machines partly because their custom-built components made dismantling them time-consuming. Figure instead trained robots to jump into molten steel at a foundry in Finland, melting most of the fleet.Figure 03 now faces a different challenge. Its latest treadmill run could reveal how well the platform withstands prolonged repetitive movement. The results may offer useful clues about the reliability required before humanoids can take on longer shifts in industrial settings.
