However, he was beaten by the Sky Blues’ first effort on target in the second half and should have done better with Rudoni’s strike. 6.Jan Paul van Hecke – The centre-back started the first half at right-back for Spurs but rarely ventured forward and instead inverted into midfield, where he looked to play as many passes into the forward players from deep as possible. He still remained solid at the back, making a vital block when Sakamoto looked to let fly from inside the Tottenham box. In the second half, he managed another crucial block after Micky van de Ven misjudged a clearance. Overall, it was a solid display, with the centre-back helping Tottenham secure a victory. 7.5.Tosin Adarabioyo – He earned his first start for Tottenham in the Premier League and had a pretty solid first half, often finding himself in the middle of the centre-backs in build-up and helping to keep things ticking. In the second half, though, he saw his clean sheet wiped out, and perhaps he could have reacted quicker to block Rudoni’s shot. Instead, he stayed close to Kinsky, which affected how the keeper could make a save. 6.5.Micky van de Ven – He showed why he was picked ahead of Senesi in the first half, as his recovery pace helped him make a last-ditch tackle to prevent Thomas-Asante from shooting at Kinsky. He was aggressive and often looked to push up in attack. In the second half, though, his forward forays were few and far between, although he still managed several key defensive contributions in the second 45 minutes. 7.5.Andy Robertson – An impressive outing overall for the full-back, who was a standout in both halves. In the first half, Robertson was tasked with holding width on the left and was often an outlet for Spurs on that side of the pitch, getting into good crossing positions, although his delivery often fell short. In the second half, he continued in the same fashion and eventually got an assist after playing Marmoush in for Spurs’ second. He was later taken off after going down, hopefully because it was nothing too serious. 8.Archie Gray – He started in midfield in this one and featured in the number eight role in the first half, linking well with Kudus. He also looked to underlap whenever possible from deep, and it was his run from deep that opened up space for Maddison’s opener. In the second half, he continued to show for the ball, remained tidy in possession and continued to make those runs. He did eventually end up at right-back after Tosin went off injured and Spurs looked to shuffle things around. 7.Sandro Tonali – The £100 million-rated midfielder looked very impressive in the first half, covering plenty of ground in the middle of the park for Tottenham. He continued where he left off in the second half, often offering cover at full-back whenever van Hecke was out of possession. He also came close to giving Spurs a 2-1 lead when he let fly from inside the box after the ball fell kindly to him following a cross. He also found some room outside the box once more after reacting quickest to a loose ball, but his effort was high. 8.James Maddison – It was an impressive first half for the Tottenham number ten, who scored an absolute beauty after Kudus found him on the edge of the box. In the second half, he looked to continue his impressive display and did get on the ball both deep and high, linking up well with his teammates. 9.Mohammed Kudus – He was the liveliest of the wide players for Spurs in the first half, with the Ghana international mixing his game well on the right for Tottenham. His decision-making was spot on, as he often looked not only to come inside but also to go on the outside when taking on his man. He grabbed an assist for Maddison’s opener and remained a threat on the right in the second half, dribbling and taking his man on. 8.Dominic Solanke – The striker did not have a clear sniff of goal in the first half but showed a willingness to work hard in attack, running the channels. In the second half, he picked up where he left off, being a nuisance up front for the Coventry centre-backs while also running the channels. He could well have scored after a neat chop in the box to create space for himself, but his effort was blocked. Solanke did manage a goal contribution after assisting Davies for Spurs’ third of the night. 7.Omar Marmoush – After a quieter first 45 minutes, Marmoush came to life in the second half after linking well with Robertson down the left for Spurs’ second, curling in an absolute beauty. The forward deserves plaudits for his work rate out of possession, as he looked to track back when Spurs were without the ball. 7.SubstitutesBen Davies – The Welshman replaced Andy Robertson and went straight in at left-back, but his role was more conservative, with Davies making fewer runs beyond the left winger. He did find himself on the edge of the Coventry box in the closing stages and shot after Solanke’s hold-up play, helping Spurs grab their third. 7.Mateus Fernandes – He came on for Tosin, who also looked to have picked up an injury, and went straight into defensive midfield, where he was tidy in possession and stopped several Coventry attacks. 6.Conor Gallagher – The Englishman replaced James Maddison and went straight into the number ten role, bringing some extra energy to Spurs’ midfield, although at times his final ball was lacking. 6.Dejan Kulusevski – He made his first appearance since 11 May 2025 and showed that he still had some pace after skipping past a challenge on a counter-attack, but no one was in the box to support him. It was a welcome sight to see him back on the pitch. 7.Mathys Tel – The wide forward came on for Omar Marmoush and went straight into the left-wing spot. He looked lively and looked after the ball well in the closing stages against tired Coventry defenders. He did look to curl one into the top bins, but his effort was high and wide. 7.The post Tottenham player ratings vs Coventry City as 9/10 star shows he is the missing link appeared first on Spurs Web.
