Sovereignty Works at Saratoga, Mott is Pleased

Sovereignty (Into Mischief) worked five furlongs in 1:02.76 Sunday over the Saratoga training track in what was his penultimate workout before the Oct. 31 GI Breeders Cup Classic.“Visually, it looked fine to me,” trainer Bill Mott said. “He looked good. I didn't have a watch, but I thought that everything looked good. We put his workmate in front of him and he joined up in the stretch and finished a little bit ahead of him and galloped out well. I think it was a very typical work for what we have been used to seeing from him over the last two years.”The 2025 Horse of the Year has not started since winning the Aug. 8 GI Whitney Stakes at Saratoga. He missed what was expected be his final prep for the Classic after developing a left hind foot abscess. Mott has been playing catch-up ever since as he attempts to have his horse primed for the Classic, but said Sunday that he likes the position that he is in.“We've gotten several good works into him now,” Mott said. “We got held up over a month ago and we had to miss a race that we really wanted to run in, but we had to miss it. I think we've had enough time to come back and do enough. I could have put more works into him if I wanted to squeeze him a little bit. I could have done more than what we've done, but I think it's enough.”All of Sovereignty's works since he missed the Gold Cup have been on the slower side, but Mott said not to read too much into that.“If you pulled up all his works over his time in training, they're all very similar,” he said. “I even went back myself from the time he was a two-year-old before we ever ran him. You can look up all his works and see that the one this morning is very typical. One time, a couple weeks before the Derby, we worked him faster, but I wanted him to ask him for a little more galloping out and he went out very well. But that's a little different racetrack than what we're working on here. He's done a lot of his works at Payson Park, which is a little slower. I work him on the training track here at Saratoga, and that's also a little slower.”Sovereignty will have his final pre-Breeders' Cup work next weekend at Keeneland. The post Sovereignty Works at Saratoga, Mott is Pleased appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
