Eberechi Eze has been told he may need to accept his role at Arsenal being an impact substitute after a nightmare cameo.Eze was handed his first start of the Premier League season during the Gunners‘ 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest on Sunday.Eze was hooked at half time during Arsenal’s 1-0 win over Nottingham Forest after being handed his first league start of the seasonGettyHowever, the England international was substituted at half time at the City Ground by Mikel Arteta in a brutal decision. To make matters worse, his replacement, Noni Madueke, was the player to score the late winning goal for the visitors. In his first half showing, Eze lost possession eight times and failed to complete a dribble while playing off the left wing. He also misplaced four of his passes and really struggled to make an impact against the deep defensive line of Forest. And after failing to prove why he deserves a starting place, concerns are rising as to whether he’ll ever have a key role. Will Eze ever become an Arsenal starter?Speaking on talkSPORT’s The Final Word, host Majestic said: “Apart from bodying Spurs last season, he hasn’t really set the world on fire for Arsenal.“I can’t help but think that the way Arteta sets his team up, the freedom that Eze needs a player…he doesn’t seem like an Arteta player.”That then prompted ex-Premier League boss Alan Pardew to admit he thinks Eze won’t ever be a starter in this Arsenal team.“In the way he sets up his No.10, I don’t see Eze getting a lot of action there,” Pardew said. “There’s a real defensive side to that No.10 position he likes that Martin Odegaard does and Eze doesn’t do.Pardew doesn’t think Eze will ever be a starter for Arsenal and that his role may be coming on as a late substituteGetty“I think Arteta doesn’t feel comfortable with that.”He added: “In certain games, against lesser oppositon, Eze will be given that No.10 position.“But I’ve seen him on that left side for Crystal Palace a few times and it’s just not him. He’s never going to go down the left hand side and whip crosses in, he wants to come and play centrally. He’s going to make the game too narrow and therefore you’ve not got enough width, so it’s a problem.“Arteta took him off rightly, in my opinion, as it just wasn’t working. “In the first instance though, perhaps he shouldn’t have started him there, and used him as an impact as a No.10. And I think that will be his role at Arsenal, if they need a goal. “I don’t think Eze is going to a starter for Arsenal, I think he’s a sub and if they need a moment, then the manager can give him the last 10-15 minutes of games.”Arteta admitted it was tough for Eze coming up against a deep defensive line, but remained positive on his starGettyWhat has Arteta said on Eze? Arteta may have taken Eze off at the break against Forest on Sunday, but he remained positive on the midfielder post-match.The 28-year-old scored for Arsenal in the Champions League on Tuesday after starting on the left wing against Lille.“Three days ago he scored a goal, he should have scored three and we were all happy,” Arteta told Sky Sports. He then went on to admit that Eze couldn’t find space against Nottingham Forest’s deep block, so he had to try a new approach.“This is football, one day it’s brilliant, the next day, especially with attacking players to play against a team that defends with 10 players in and around the box, the nine dropping almost at the edge, it’s extremely difficult to get in there and that’s it. “But that’s why you need fresh legs, a different profile and try different things.”
