What are your biggest Cleanliness / Sanitation pet peeves on your Unit?

Wait 5 sec.

Pretty much what it says on the tin can. What are the cleaning and sanitation oversights that you see that drive you up the wall? Could be something big or small, something that MDs/medstudents/EVS/fellow nurses/ect do (or don’t do) that make you want to punt a canister of purple wipes at them with a vengeance. I’ll go first: When I was a perioperative assistant, for me it was how un thoroughly beds and stretchers were cleaned when it came to the important details. Specifically, it felt like I was the only one that would always wipe down the various manual latches for the side rails, or the bed’s crash controls under the plastic flap at the head of the bed. The thing was, whenever those controls got used, it was by someone actively managing a crashing patient (often ones who were bleeding, since this was on the surgical wards), meaning their gloved hands would always be bloodied or have other ✨fluids✨ on them. These would then get on the crash controls, but since the flap would often be closed right after the code, meaning the patient shmoo wouldn’t get cleaned before the next time those controls were touched. On the bright side, the RNs and surgical techs I worked with would always give me verbal head pats for making the beds and stretchers feel like they were actually truly clean and sanitary. It’s a little embarrassing to admit, but if I had a tail, it would’ve been wagging like crazy whenever that happened… submitted by /u/Calm-Collection8487 [link] [comments]
