New thematic details are visible through the scaffolding on the exterior of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This update comes after months of construction on the iconic Hollywood Tower Hotel facade at Walt Disney World Resort.Twilight Zone Tower of Terror RefurbishmentIn early 2026, Walt Disney World Resort filed a construction permit application for the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, offering the first glimpse of its plans for an extensive refurbishment of the Hollywood Tower Hotel facade. Work first began on portions of the outdoor attraction queue, and once that maintenance was complete, protective scrim appeared on decorative elements on the right side of the building above the gift shop.Credit: DisneyScaffolding first appeared above the gift shop in early July. Over the last several months, scaffolding has crawled across the building and up the 199-foot attraction facade, eventually surrounding the Hollywood Tower Hotel sign. It quickly became apparent that Walt Disney World Resort was repainting the building, as patches of fresh pink appeared, awaiting the intentionally aged, worn treatment the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror is known for.Walt Disney World Resort finally removed some of the scaffolding above the gift shop in mid-September, and signs of construction are slowly disappearing from the building’s right side as work on the top of the Hollywood Tower Hotel continues.New Theming Added to Hollywood Tower Hotel FacadeCredit: Inside the MagicOn October 18, WDWNT visited Disney’s Hollywood Studios and discovered something new on the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. Beneath the scaffolding, Central Florida Disney Park guests can see a bright purple “scar” from the lightning that struck the building in the attraction’s backstory. The dark purple shading surrounds bright white sections that stand out on the attraction’s pink facade. Near the top of the tower, the lightning damage wraps around a corner toward a small circular window. There appears to be additional purple-and-white detailing on other areas of the building, but it’s mostly hidden beneath the extensive scaffolding.Credit: Inside the MagicDespite the extensive refurbishment, the view from the windows of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror attraction isn’t obstructed by scaffolding. The 32-year-old ride continues to operate normally, and Walt Disney World Resort has not announced any plans to close it in the near future.Have you noticed any other construction at the Central Florida Disney parks?
