POTD: Out Past the Fence Line, Nothing Is Hiding Anymore

Wait 5 sec.

The darkness is a lie your eyes have been telling you for years. Out past the fence line, the hog trail, the dry wash and the ranch road carry on without you, until a thermal scope shows who has been watching whom. This is TFB's Photo of the Day, showing the new Trijicon REAP-IR-50 LRF. I didn’t even try to identify the rifle setup, since this is the company's first scope built around a 1024x768 thermal sensor and that’s blinding my eyes. Feeding a 1280x1024 OLED through a 50mm F1.0 lens, it is less like swapping your headlights and more like bolting a full light bar to the roof of the truck. Except, in this case, no one will see you, but you will see them. Hunters get recoil-activated recording and 64GB of storage. Landowners and anyone watching a long border line get a built-in 905nm rangefinder and a Live View stream, so a second person sees exactly what the shooter sees. At $9,499, it is not cheap, but neither is a long night spent guessing and then trying to explain to the law why the neighbour’s cat looked like a fox.For the details and some sample images from the thermal camera, check out TFB’s article.Images by: TrijiconIf this post has you ready to hit the range, head over to gunranges.com - a free directory to help you find shooting ranges near you, wherever you are in the United States.
