Darren Bent believes Tottenham Hotspur made a huge mistake in the summer that they will come to massively regret very soon. There was a lot of optimism and excitement among Spurs fans about the ambition and decisiveness with which Tottenham acted during the summer window, which marked a clear depature from how they operated under Daniel Levy. However, two months into the season, the Lilywhites’ business is starting to be viewed with extreme scepticism in some quarters. Many have questioned the logic of Tottenham’s decision to swap Jan Paul van Hecke for Luka Vuskovic, given how well the Croat has done since his switch to Brighton. However, it is another one of Spurs’ summer sales that has surprised the club’s former striker Bent the most.Credit: @myho_0218 / InstagramTottenham told they let a Premier League-level striker leaveWill Lankshear has already scored 10 goals for Middlesbrough, which is, astonishingly, more than Tottenham have managed as a side in their eight games across all competitions so far this term. The 21-year-old centre-forward shows no signs of slowing down, and many Spurs fans are wondering if the youngster could have been a preferable option up front to Dominic Solanke.Darren Bent believes Tottenham were being snobbish by letting the England U21 international leave, and the pundit is convinced that the Boro man will be in the Premier League sooner rather than later. When asked about Spurs’ decision to sell Lankshear, Bent said on talkSPORT Drive: “I just think sometimes there’s a big club snobbery. They’re Spurs, they’ve got all the money in the world.“I’ve got no doubt whatsoever that if Middlesbrough get promoted or whoever goes up or there’s a team there, he’ll be playing in the Premier League. He is more than good enough.”Bent believes Lankshear is the player Roberto De Zerbi wants Dominic Solanke to beSpeaking after Solanke netted his first Premier League goal of the season at Old Trafford, De Zerbi described the former Bournemouth man as a ‘complete’ striker, and suggested his attributes make him perfect to lead the line in his system. Some may view that as the Italian attempting to instil some confidence in Solanke. Those who are more cynical would suggest that De Zerbi is trying to elevate hope into expectation, given how far off the boil the Englishman has looked this season. However, Bent believes Lankshear is the kind of striker the Tottenham boss was describing, pointing out that the Spurs academy graduate has very few weaknesses. When asked what has impressed him the most about Lankshear, the 42-year-old responded: “He’s a big, physical powerhouse. Good movement, good finisher, composed. What I like about him is he scores all types of goals. He’s always there or thereabouts. You get some strikers that score a lot of goals, but they haven’t got that sense of where the ball’s going to drop.”READ MORE: Tottenham injury update: Pedro Porro and Mudryk near return as Kulusevski set for November comebackThe post Tottenham accused of 'big club snobbery' that cost them a £20m 'physical powerhouse' appeared first on Spurs Web.
