I got tired of AI tools that upload everything and charge monthly, so I built one that runs 100% offline on your own machine and can actually operate your PC

Wait 5 sec.

This started as a personal itch. I didn’t love that every AI tool wanted an account, uploaded whatever I fed it, and charged me every month. So I started building the opposite, and it slowly turned into a real thing. It’s an AI assistant that runs entirely on your own machine. The model is a local open-weights one, so with the internet switched off it still works, and nothing you type or show it leaves your device. The only time anything goes out is web search, which is off unless you add your own key. The bit I’m most proud of is that it doesn’t just talk, it actually does things: opens and operates apps, types into Word/Excel/PowerPoint, drives Blender and Unreal Engine, runs shell commands and works in the browser builds websites and web apps from a description, and can put together playable Unreal games with proper materials and lighting, not just grey boxes generates images locally and can make 3D models answers questions about my own files and PDFs without uploading them anywhere voice mode with a wake word for hands-free use, and on the phone I can point the camera at something and ask about it it’s a desktop app, an Android app and a browser extension, all running against the same local model Honest tradeoff, because I’d rather say it upfront: it’s a smaller model running on normal hardware, so it’s not as sharp as GPT-5 or Claude on really hard reasoning or big coding jobs. I’m not going to pretend otherwise. What I get in return is that it’s private, works offline, actually controls my computer, and it’s a one-time purchase instead of another subscription. Building the “it can use your actual apps” part was by far the hardest bit and took way longer than I expected. Mostly I’m looking for a gut check from people who build things: is “private, offline, and it runs your PC” a real selling point, or do people only care about having the smartest possible model? And if you’d use something like this, what’s the first thing you’d point it at? submitted by /u/Ill-Satisfaction1089 [link] [comments]
