IWM 1D: back on the first gap April left openiShares Russell 2000 ETFBATS:IWMStructuraMarketsThe last Accumulate stamp on this chart is 373 bars old, and that is the point. It fell at the April 2025 low, under the reference line, when IWM was trading in the low 170s. Since then the panel has read NO ACCUMULATION for every single session: price left the zone above the reference and never came back to it. The layer has not spoken in a year and a half. That silence is the design, not a gap in coverage - the structure layer marks where a base was built, and it marks it rarely. The reference line is still rising, and it is still far below price. It sits at 252.77 today, roughly eighteen points under the close. Nothing in this sell-off has touched it yet. That is the one line on this chart that has history behind it: everything above it was built after the stamp, in the move from the April low to the summer highs. What the sell-off has reached is the gap structure, not the base. Blocks tracks one hundred imbalances on the daily and leaves eleven upward gaps unfilled against four downward. The four unfilled downward gaps sit above price - the most recent one just overhead, the older ones stacked up toward the September and July highs. The eleven upward gaps sit below, and the first of them is the one price closed on today: the imbalance April’s rally left behind on its way up, untested since. Read the asymmetry, not the direction. Eleven unfilled gaps below and four above is a description of how this chart was built: a fast rally that skipped levels on the way up, followed by a decline that is now revisiting them one at a time. The crowd that trades these gaps watches for a return to each one. Today is the first return to the first one. Both outcomes are information. If price is accepted back above today’s gap and stays there, the April rally keeps its first shelf and the gaps below stay unfilled. If the gap fills and price keeps going, the next references are the remaining upward gaps between here and the Accumulate line at 252.77 - and only at that line does the structure layer have anything to say. Relative volume is HIGH on this test, so whichever way it resolves, it will not have resolved on a thin tape. A caveat worth stating. The stamp at the April low looks obvious now because the rally that followed is on the chart. The tool does not know which stamp will look obvious in hindsight; it marks where a base was built and then waits. We are showing you a year of waiting. Educational analysis, not trading advice.
