Breeders’ Cup Tab Includes Golden Tempo, Englishman, Napoleon Solo

Wait 5 sec.

With the Breeders' Cup World Championships at Keeneland just two weeks away, key horses continue to hit the track in the early hours as they make preparations for the big race days that are almost here.Over the Breeders' Cup surface, 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard,' Golden Tempo (Classic) worked after the first maintenance period under regular rider Jose Ortiz, covering a half-mile in :48.40.The 3-year-old son of Curlin drilled on the inside of stablemate So Sandy (Omaha Beach), ridden by apprentice jockey Yomar Ortiz Jr. Golden Tempo and So Sandy are both trained by Cherie DeVaux.Golden Tempo galloped out five furlongs in 1:01.20 and 6 furlongs in 1:13.60.“He went very good. Just what we wanted,” Jose Ortiz said. “Very happy with him. We just want to keep him happy.”The winner of the Kentucky Derby and GI Belmont Stakes, Golden Tempo has breezed five times at Keeneland since a third in the GI DraftKings Travers at the Spa Aug. 29.Another 'TDN Rising Star, presented by Hagyard,' Englishman (Sprint), breezed just after the track opened for training at 5:30 a.m. on Friday. The Maxfield colt went the fastest half of the day, going in :47, in splits of :12.60, :24.40, :35.80 and galloping out five furlongs in :59 and 6 furlongs in 1:13.40.At Belmont Park on Friday, Espoir USA's dual Grade I-winner Napoleon Solo (Liam's Map) turned in another breeze over the main track by covering a solo half-mile in 48.63 seconds shortly after 5:30 a.m. ET in rein to regular exercise rider Emily Ellingwood. The work was the sophomore colt's fourth since moving downstate from Saratoga following a runner-up finish in the Travers.Last week, the Chad Summers trainee worked six furlongs in 1:11 flat, running down a pair of workers for Rudy Rodriguez in the stretch and galloping out strongly.“He did more than we anticipated last time he went with a six-furlong work, so we just wanted to kind of give him an easy one,” trainer Chad Summers said. “Emily gets along so well with him and they love each other. We'll go five-eighths with him next week at Keeneland.”Summers indicated a final decision will be made about whether the colt runs in the Breeders' Cup Classic or the Dirt Mile once pre-entries are released Oct. 21, but that the Classic is the likely target.“He leaves for Keeneland at 4 o'clock tomorrow morning–you want to be able to get some gallop days down there and then hopefully he'll breeze on Friday,” Summers added. “I don't want to breeze too close to the race if I don't have to, we'll just keep our eye on the weather.”The post Breeders’ Cup Tab Includes Golden Tempo, Englishman, Napoleon Solo appeared first on TDN | Thoroughbred Daily News | Horse Racing News, Results and Video | Thoroughbred Breeding and Auctions.
