I'm a programmer, a hobby guitarist, and apparently now someone who needs to relearn music to debug an app. I'm building Art Guitar. I had some music education a long time ago, but I've forgotten most of it. So I've been using AI to fill in the gaps as I build. Guitar fingerings are where this gets awkward. I can't comfortably read one and play it on sight. Even something reasonable can take me hours of repetition before my fingers cooperate. So when I struggle with something the app produces, what have I actually learned? Is the fingering awkward? Is it fine for an experienced player? Or do I just need more practice? With a tracker, I can check whether a total is correct. Here, a result can pass the checks I know how to write and still be something a guitarist would never choose to play. Asking AI to review it leaves me needing enough expertise to judge that answer too. That's the part of “you can build anything with AI” I'm struggling with. I can build more than I can confidently evaluate. I'm in my 30s. I wanted to build an app around a hobby, and now I'm wondering how much of that hobby I need to master before I can trust what I'm shipping. If you've built outside your expertise, how did you handle this? Learn the field yourself, work with an expert, or narrow the product to what you could actually verify? submitted by /u/MindOn8819 [link] [comments]
