I’m fairly new to ICU, but I just got off. And I got an admission today, who had an NGT that was marked at 25, and the floor nurses never advanced despite a previous x-ray showing it was in the esophagus. I seen it was marked at 60 before so my charged advanced it to the original marking. I have noticed since being here when ever we put in NGT in, it’s rarely followed up with an x-ray. And when I’ve asked the doctors or nurses they usually say something like, they don’t really need it but sure. The patient was hooked up to suction, and gastric content came out immediately. So today, when I was giving report, the night nurse looked at me like I was crazy when I told her the patient didn’t get an x-ray. Now I feel terrible and incompetent 😣 Edit: thanks guys! I will for sure be getting an XRAY from now on!! The transition into ICU has been extremely humbling submitted by /u/virgots26 [link] [comments]
